Blue Dream / Blue Velvet Dwarf Shrimp - Neocaridina davidi

The Blue Dream dwarf shrimp is a real eye-catcher for green planted aquariums. As a color variant of the Neocaridina davidi, the Blue Dream is very popular with aquarists. Its pattern varies greatly and ranges from light blue to dark blue, and can have dots, stripes or spots.

Our shrimps are kept in pure species tanks and enjoy a varied diet. In contrast to breeding farms or wholesalers, we attach particular importance to providing the shrimps with an environment appropriate to their species . Unfortunately, large breeding facilities or wholesalers tend to keep the animals in simple or unequipped tanks, as they are only seen as objects for sale and not as living creatures, as they should actually be.

Neocaridina davidi are particularly beginner-friendly , as they are very easy to care for, robust and easy to keep together . They are also able to adapt particularly well to different water values. It is strongly recommended to keep a group of at least 10 shrimps at a time, as these are group animals. When mixing with other color variants, it should be taken into account that the color splendor is lost, and the offspring may even revert to the wild-colored pattern.

As omnivores, dwarf shrimp feed on biofilms, plant remains and also protein-rich food (care should be taken here, as excessive consumption leads to more frequent molting, which can be fatal). As a rule (depending on the size of the tank and the number of animals), the animals do not need to be fed, as they graze on the surfaces in the aquarium. Dwarf shrimp particularly love moss balls or various types of moss. In addition, the animals can be offered nettle leaves and foliage for variety.

The reproduction of Neocaridina is quite easy if the animals are happy. The female carries the eggs in her abdomen for between three and five weeks and constantly fans them with fresh water, keeping the eggs moving so that they do not become covered in algae. After this time, the female releases 20 - 60 fully developed young. The young do not need to be separated from the parents, as they do not prey on the offspring, but you should make sure that your filters are shrimp-proof, as the young are extremely tiny after hatching.
